iPhone (iPod) 'Power On' Tech Vest
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease®
GAUGE:
20 sts + 28 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) using larger needles.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.
PATTERN STITCH K1, p1 Rib (over odd number of sts) Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
NOTES:
1. Vest is worked in 2 pieces, Back and Front. 2. The front neck is worked with 2 separate strands of yarn. Unwind about 3 yd (3 m) of A before beginning to use while working the front neck. 3. The motif is worked in duplicate st, following a chart, on front of Vest. 4. When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue on without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
BACK With smaller needles and A, cast on 15 sts. Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 1 in. (2.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row. Change to larger needles. With B, k 1 row. Cut B. With A, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Shape Armholes Row 1 (RS): Bind off 2 sts, k to end of row - 13 sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Bind off 2 sts, p to end of row - 11 sts. Work even in St st until piece measures about 5 in. (12.5 cm) from beg. Bind off.
FRONT Work Front same as Back until armholes measure about 1 in. (2.5 cm). Shape V-Neck Row 1 (RS): K4, join a 2nd strand of yarn, k next 3 sts and sl them to holder, k4 - 4 sts on each side. Work both sides at the same time with separate strands of yarn from this point on. Row 2: P across all sts of first side; on 2nd side, p to end of row. Row 3: K1, k2tog, k1; on 2nd side, k1, ssk, k1 - 3 sts on each side. Work even in St st until Front measures same as Back. Bind off.
FINISHING Sew left shoulder seam. Neck Rib Row 1 (RS): With RS facing, smaller needles and B, pick up and k6 sts evenly spaced across back neck, pick up and k5 sts evenly spaced along left front neck edge, k center 3 sts from holder, and pick up and k5 sts evenly spaced along right front neck edge - 19 sts. Cut B. With A, purl 1 row, then work in K1, p1 Rib for 4 rows. Bind off in rib.
Armhole Rib Sew right shoulder seam, including edges of neck rib. With RS facing, smaller needles and B, pick up and k23 sts evenly spaced along one armhole edge. Work in K1, p1 Rib for 4 rows. Bind off in rib. Rep across 2nd armhole edge.
Duplicate St Motif With RS of Front facing and B, beg on 5th row of St st and centered across row, work duplicate st power motif following chart. Sew side seams, including armhole rib. Weave in ends.
