GAUGE:

16 sc = 4 in. (10 cm).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Each Bootie is worked in one piece beg at back of sole.
2. Sole and top of foot are worked in rows. Side and cuff are worked in rnds. Do not turn unless instructed to do so.
3. Sts of some rnds/rows are worked through the back loops or front loops only. If back loops or front loops are not specified, this means you should work the sts through both loops.
4. When working top of foot do not ch 1 at the beg of rows.
5. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color only when instructed. When working sides and cuff, carry color not in use up the WS.

BOOTIE #1 - Bootie without Tassels (make 2)
Sole With green, ch 7.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 6 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc - 8 sc at the end of this row.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Rep last row until sole measures 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg.
Place st marker in last st worked. Do not fasten off and do not turn.
Side
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 14 sc evenly spaced across side edge of sole; work 6 sc evenly spaced across Row 1 for heel; work 14 sc evenly spaced across other side edge of sole; sc in each sc across last row of sole to marker, changing to dark blue in last st - 42 sc at the end of this rnd. Fasten off green.
Rnd 2: With dark blue, and working through back loops only, sc in each sc around. Change to purple in last st.
Rnd 3: With purple, rep Rnd 2. Change to dark blue in last st.
Rnds 4 and 5: Rep Rnds 2 and 3. Fasten off purple at end of Rnd 5.
Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 2.
Top of Foot
Row 1: With dark blue, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc, turn so that WS is facing, sk sl st, working in front loops only, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc; leave rem sts unworked.
Rows 2-5: Turn, sk first 2 sl sts, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc along side of Bootie.
Row 6 (RS): Turn, sk first 2 sl sts, (sc2tog, sc in next sc) twice, sc2tog, sl st in next sc along side of Bootie - 27 sc rem.
Fasten off.
Cuff
Rnd 1: From RS, join dark blue with sl st in any sc at back of Bootie, sc in each sc around Bootie opening (sk the sl st at the end of Row 6 of top of foot). Change to purple in last st.
Rnds 2 and 3: With purple, sc in each st around. Change to dark blue in last st of Rnd 3.
Rnds 4 and 5: With dark blue, rep Rnds 2 and 3. Change to purple in last st of Rnd 5.
Rnds 6-9:Rep Rnds 2-5. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

BOOTIE #2 - Bootie with Tassels (make 2)
Note: When working cuff, carry color not in use up the WS.
Sole
With white, work same as Bootie #1 sole.
Side
Rnds 1 and 2: With white, work same as Bootie #1 side Rnds 1 and 2. Change to light blue in last st of Rnd 2. Fasten off white.
Rnd 3: With light blue, rep Rnd 2.
Rnds 4 and 5: Sc in each st around.
Top of Foot
Row 1: With light blue, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc, turn so that WS is facing, sk sl st, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc; leave rem sts unworked.
Rows 2-6: Work same as Rows 2-6 of Bootie #1 top of toot - 27 sc rem.
Fasten off light blue.
Cuff
Rnd 1: From RS, join white with sl st in any st at back of Bootie, sc in each sc around Bootie opening.
Rnd 2: Working through back loops only, sc in each st around.
Change to light blue in last st. Fasten off white.
Rnd 3: With light blue, rep Rnd 2. Change to yellow in last st.
Do not fasten off light blue.
Rnd 4: With yellow, working through both loops, sc in each st around. Change to light blue in last st. Do not fasten off yellow.
Rnd 5: With light blue, rep Rnd 4. Change to yellow in last st.
Rnd 6 and 7: Rep Rnds 4 and 5. Change to green in last st of Rnd 7.
Fasten off yellow at end of Rnd 6 and light blue at end of Rnd 7.
Rnd 8: With green, rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 9:With green, and working through back loops only, sc in each st around. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Tassels (make 4)
Wrap 1 strand each of light blue, purple and green yarn 6 times around the 1 in. (2.5 cm) width of cardboard. Cut a 10 in. (25.5 cm) length of purple yarn and thread into blunt needle. Insert needle under all strands at upper edge of cardboard. Pull tightly and knot securely near strands. Cut yarn loops at lower edge of cardboard. Cut a 6 in. (15 cm) length of purple yarn and wrap tightly around loops 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) below top knot to form Tassel neck. Knot securely; thread ends into needle and weave ends to center of Tassel. Trim Tassel ends evenly. Using length of yarn at top of Tassel, tie 2 Tassels to front of each Bootie.
Weave in ends.

BOOTIE #3 - Low-Top Bootie with Ties (make 2)
Sole
With yellow, work same as Bootie #1 sole.Change to peach in last st of last row. Fasten off yellow. Place st marker in last st worked. Do not turn.
Side
Rnd 1: With peach, work same as Bootie #1 side Rnd 1.
Rnds 2-4: Sc in each sc around. Change to pink in last st of Rnd 4.
Fasten off peach. Do not turn.
Top of Foot
Row 1: With pink and working through both loops, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc, turn so that WS is facing, sk sl st, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc; leave rem sts unworked.
Rows 2-5: Turn, sk first 2 sl sts, sc in next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc along side of Bootie.
Row 6 (RS): Turn, sk first 2 sl sts, sc in next 8 sc across top of foot, sl st in next sc along side of Bootie - 30 sc. Change to peach in last st of Row 6. Fasten off pink.
Do not turn.
Cuff
Rnds 1 and 2: With peach, sc in each sc around Bootie opening.
Eyelet Rnd: *Sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sk next sc (eyelet made); rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Tie (make 2)
With yellow, ch 70.
Row 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off.
Weave tie through eyelets, then tie ends into a bow. Weave in ends.
