Lion Brand« Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Choice® Baby
10 1/2 sts + 17 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
1. Throw is worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog.
2. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows as if working with straight needles.
3. To change color, drop one strand of the previous color combination and pick up one new strand to create the next color combination. Fasten off the strand of the old color.
4. Stitch markers are used to separate the Garter st (K every row) borders. Slip markers as you come to them.
With 1 strand each of A and H held tog, cast on 80 sts.
Working back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles, k 8 rows.
Row 1: K 5 for border, place marker (pm), k to last 5 sts, pm, k to end of row.
Row 2: K to marker, slip marker (sm), p to next marker, sm, k to end of row.
Continue as established, working first and last 5 sts in Garter st (k every row), and the sts between markers in St st (k on RS, p on WS), changing color as follows:
Rows 3-5: With 1 strand each of A and H.
Rows 6-19: With 1 strand each of A and B.
Rows 20-33: With 1 strand each of B and C.
Rows 34-47: With 1 strand each of C and D.
Rows 48-61: With 1 strand each of D and E.
Rows 62-75: With 1 strand each of E and F.
Rows 76-89: With 1 strand each of F and G.
Rows 90-103: With 1 strand each of G and H.
Rows 104-117: With 1 strand each of H and I.
Rows 118-131: With 1 strand each of I and J.
Rows 132-137: With 1 strand each of J and H. Remove markers as you work the last row.
Rows 138-145: With 1 strand each of J and H held tog, k 8 rows.
Weave in ends.
