Crafted Ornaments
Lion Brand® Bonbons
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
NOTES: 1. You will need to draw shapes onto cardboard to make these ornaments. You can draw shapes freehand, trace around a handy object (like a drinking glass for the circle), or download and print any shapes that catch your fancy! Feel free to draw any holiday shape that is meaningful to you. 2. Ornaments can be made any size you like.

STAR Draw a Star about 4 in. (10 cm) across, or size as desired, onto cardboard. Draw a Star about 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) smaller inside the larger Star. With craft knife and metal ruler, cut along lines to make a Star with an open center. Apply a small amount of glue to one section of Star. Wrap glued area with yarn in desired color. Continue to apply glue and wrap until entire Star is covered. Wrap a strand of contrast color yarn randomly over wrapped Star. Hide yarn ends When finished wrapping, thread yarn end into blunt needle. Draw needle under wraps to hide the yarn end. Slip needle off and trim ends. Hanging loop Thread a 10 in. (25.5 cm) length of yarn into blunt needle. Draw needle under several wraps at top of Ornament. Slip needle off. Knot and trim ends.
WREATH Draw a circle about 3 1/2 in. (9 cm) across, or size as desired, onto cardboard. Draw a circle about 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) smaller inside the larger circle. With craft knife, cut along marked lines to create a Wreath. Apply a small amount of glue to one section of circle. Wrap glued area with yarn in desired color. Continue to apply glue and wrap until entire Wreath is covered. Braid Trim Cut 6 strands of contrast color yarn, each about 30 in. (76 cm) long. Knot strands together about 2 in. (5 cm) from one end. Divide strands into 3 groups of 2 strands each and braid. Knot end of braid. Wrap braid around Wreath and knot ends of braid at back of Wreath. Bow Cut 4 strands of yarn in desired color, each about 15 in. (38 cm) long. Thread strands into blunt needle and draw under wraps, anywhere on Wreath you'd like the bow to be. Slip needle off and tie strands into a bow. Trim ends. Hide yarn ends and make a hanging loop same as for the Star ornament.
CANDY CANE Draw a block letter 'J' about 4 in. (10 cm) tall, or size as desired, onto cardboard. With craft knife, cut shape from cardboard. Apply a small amount of glue to one section of J. Wrap glued area with yarn in 2 desired colors. To make stripes, wrap with 2 colors alternately, hiding yarn strand you're not using under the strand you're wrapping with. Continue to apply glue and wrap until entire 'J' is covered. Hide yarn ends and make a hanging loop same as for the Star ornament. |
