Two Color Shawlette

Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®

GAUGE:

4 dc + 3 1/2 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Cl (cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops (2 loops rem on hook), (yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 4 times, yarn over and draw through all 6 loops on hook.

NOTES:

Shawlette is worked in one piece beg at top edge, with 1 strand of each color held tog.

SHAWLETTE
With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, ch 9.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 8 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 on this row and on all following rows), turn, dc in first st, *ch 1, dc in next st; rep from * across - 9 dc and 8 ch-1 sps.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc on this row and on all following rows), turn, 2 dc in each ch-1 sp across to turning ch, 2 dc in turning ch-sp, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch - 18 dc.
Row 4: Ch 4, turn, dc in first dc, *ch 1, dc in next st; rep from * across - 19 dc and 18 ch-1 sps.

Edging
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc in this row and in all following rows), turn, 2 dc in first st, ch 2, sk next st, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next st, *ch 2, sk next st, 3 dc in next st, ch 2, sk next st, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next st; rep from * to last tr and turning ch, ch 2, sk next st, 3 dc in top of turning ch - Sixteen 3-dc groups at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center dc of first 3-dc group, *ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center dc of next 3-dc group; rep from * to end of row - Fifteen 3-dc groups at the end of this row.

Need to really crochet loosely to get the right fit. And, two strands is an absolute must in order to get the loose stitches and then good fit. If the person you are making this for is not fairly petite, you might want to find a larger pattern or add on a few more rows so it definitely hits the shoulders well. I normally am average at getting the gauge, but this was the first pattern that I've been really off. Note that the beginning is kind of a nub for around the back of the neck only.
