Ridgley Hat
Lion Brand® Amazing®
GAUGE: 11 sts + 20 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm) over K1, p1 Rib, slightly stretched. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
PATTERN STITCH K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 4 sts) Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd. Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds. |
NOTES: 1. Hat is worked in rnds on double-pointed needles (dpns), with 2 strands of yarn held tog and beg at lower edge. 2. When knitting in the rnd on dpns, your sts need to be divided fairly evenly onto the needles. If you are working with a set of 4 dpns, your sts should be divided among 3 needles. If you are working with a set of 5 dpns, your sts should be divided among 4 needles. The total number of sts will not always be evenly divisible by the number of dpns that you are using - this is not a problem! Simply divide your sts as evenly as possible, you will still create a symmetrical 'tube' of knitting.

HAT With 2 strands of yarn held tog, cast on 48 sts. Divide sts onto 4 dpns, placing 12 sts on each of 4 needles. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts. Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds for 3 rnds. Rnd 1 (Increase Rnd): *K2, M1; rep from * to end of rnd - 72 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnds 2 and 3: Knit. Rnd 4: Purl, to create a ridge. Rnds 5-7: Knit. Rnd 8: Purl. Rnds 9-24: Rep Rnds 5-8 four times. Rnds 25-27: Rep Rnds 5-7. Shape Crown (top of Hat) Rnd 28 (Dec Rnd): *P4, p2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 60 sts. Rnds 29-31: Knit. Rnd 32 (Dec Rnd): *P3, p2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 48 sts. Rnds 33-35: Knit. Rnd 36 (Dec Rnd): *P2, p2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 36 sts. Rnds 37 and 38: Knit. Rnd 39 (Dec Rnd): *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 24 sts. Rnd 40: Purl. Rnd 41 (Dec Rnd): *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 12 sts. Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

I love this hat pattern. It is so easy and fast to make. I have made several and I am planning on making many more. You won't be disappointed.
