Unisex Slouchy Hat
Lion Brand® Hometown USA®
GAUGE: 10 half double crochet = 5 1/2 in. (14 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Hat is worked in joined rounds, beginning at the lower edge. 2. Take care to work the same number of stitches in each round. Work the first stitch into the same stitch as the joining slip stitch; skipping this stitch would cause the number of stitches in the round to decrease. Work the last stitch into the stitch before the joining slip stitch. Do not work into the joining slip stitch itself; this would cause the number of stitches in the round to increase. 3. The chain 2 at the beginning of each round counts as a stitch and should be counted when you are counting your stitches at the end of each round. Take care not to work a half double crochet into the stitch at the base of the chain 2, this would cause the total number of stitches in a round to increase.

HAT Leaving a long beginning tail, chain 39, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across; join with slip stitch in first single crochet - 38 single crochet at the end of this round. Use yarn tail to sew gap at beginning closed. Repeat Round 2 until piece measures about 10 1/2 in. (26.5 cm) from beginning.
FINISHING Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Using large-eyed needle, thread yarn tail through stitches of last round and pull to gather. Knot securely. Weave in ends. |
