GAUGE:

19 sc + 23 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Lsc (long single crochet) Insert hook into next st 2 rows below. Yarn over and draw up a loop to the height of the current row. Yarn over and draw through both loops on hook. Note: To work in a st 2 rows below, work into the st in the row numbered 2 less than the row being worked. For example, if you are working Row 5 and are instructed to work ‘in next st 2 rows below’, you will work the next st from its position on Row 3.

NOTES:

1.     To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st.
2.     The instructions for each Trim specify a multiple of sts for the pattern. To make longer lengths of any of the Trims, just work additional chs – enough to create additional multiples of the stitch pattern.

TRIM 1 (Blanket Edging - worked over a multiple of 4 sts + 3 additional sts)
With blue, ch 40.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 39 sts.
Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Change to red.
Row 5: With red, ch 1, turn, *sc in next 3 sts, Lsc in next st; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in last 3 sts - 30 sc and 9 Lsc at the end of this row.
Fasten off.

TRIM 2 (Small Picot - worked over a multiple of 3 sts)
With purple, ch 40.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 39 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Change to taupe.
Row 4: With taupe, rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next st, ch 3, sl st in first ch of ch-3 (small picot made), sk next st, sc in next st; rep from * across - 13 small picots at the end of this row.
Fasten off.

TRIM 3 (Large Picot - worked over a multiple of 3 sts + 2 additional sts)
With gold, ch 42.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 41 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Change to blue.
Row 4: With blue, rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sts, *ch 5, sl st in first ch of ch-5 (large picot made), sk next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across - 13 large picots at the end of this row.
Fasten off.

TRIM 4 (Triple Picot - worked over a multiple of 5 sts)
With pink, ch 41.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 40 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Change to purple.
Row 4: With purple, rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in next st, *ch 5, sl st in first ch of ch-5, sc in next st, ch 7, sl st in first ch of ch-7, sc in next st, ch 5, sl st in first ch of ch-5 (triple picot made), sc in next 3 sts; rep from * to last 4 sts, ch 5, sl st in first ch of ch-5, sc in next st, ch 7, sl st in first ch of ch-7, sc in next st, ch 5, sl st in first ch of ch-5, sc in next 2 sts - 8 triple picots at the end of this row.
Fasten off.

TRIM 5 (Shell - worked over a multiple of 4 sts + 1 additional st)
With amber, ch 42.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 41 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Change to pink.
Row 4: With pink, rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, *sk next st, 5 dc in next st (shell made), sk next st, sc in next st; rep from * across - 10 shells at the end of this row.
Fasten off.

TRIM 6 (Dc Clusters - worked over a multiple of 4 sts)
With taupe, ch 41.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across - 40 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Change to copper.
Row 4: With copper, rep Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 3, turn, *sk next 3 sts, dc in next st, ch 3, work 4 dc around post of previous dc (cluster made); rep from * to last 4 sts, ch 3, sk next 3 sts, sl st in last st - 10 clusters at the end of this row.
Note: To work a dc around the post of a previous st, yarn over and insert hook from front to back to front again around the post (body) of the st, yarn over and draw up a loop, then complete the dc as usual.
Fasten off.
