Party Girl Dress

Lion Brand« Jamie®

GAUGE:

20 sts + 26 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 2 sts)
Rnd 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:

1. Skirt is worked from side to side, with edging worked across lower edge, then seamed.
2. Sts for bodice are picked up along upper edge of seamed Skirt and create shaping at waist.
3. Bodice is worked in the round in one piece to armhole, then divided for front and back.

Skirt
Note:
Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
Cast on 47 (50, 53) sts.
Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, yo, k1, yo, k2tog, k to end of row - 48 (51, 54) sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Sl 1, purl to last 3 sts, k2, p1.
Row 3: Sl 1, yo, k2, yo, k2tog, k to end of row - 49 (52, 55) sts.
Row 4: Sl 1, purl to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Row 5: Sl 1, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k to end of row - 50 (53, 56) sts.
Row 6: Sl 1, purl to last 5 sts, k4, p1.
Row 7: Bind off 3 sts, k1, yo, k2tog, k to end of row - 47 (50, 53) sts.
Row 8 (WS): Knit.
Rep Rows 1-8 until piece measures about 36 (38, 40) in. (91.5 (96.5, 101.5) cm) from beg.
Bind off.
Sew bound off edge to cast on edge for center back of Skirt.

Bodice
Note:
Bodice is worked in the round to armhole.
From RS and beg at back seam of Skirt, pick up and k102 (112, 122) sts evenly spaced across upper edge of skirt (you are picking up along the ends of the rows on the edge of the Skirt that does not have edging). Place a marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd.
Eyelet Rnd: *Yo, k2tog; rep from * around.
Knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd.
Work in K1, p1 rib for 8 (12, 16) rnds.
Knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd.
Rep Eyelet Rnd.
Knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd.
Remove marker on last rnd.
Cut yarn.
Divide for Front and Back
Note:
Work now proceeds in rows, so you will be working back and forth on the circular needle.
Next Row: Skip next 23 sts. Rejoin yarn and bind off 6 sts for armhole, knit until there are 45 (50, 55) sts on right needle, sl these sts to a stitch holder for front, bind off 6 sts, k 45 (50, 55) for back.
Back
Work back and forth in rows over sts for back only.
Next Row (WS): Sl 1, k3, p to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Decrease Row: Sl 1, k3, k2tog, k to last 6 sts, k2tog, k3, p1 - 43 (48, 53) sts at the end of this row.
Rep last 2 rows 5 more times - 33 (38, 43) sts rem.
Next Row (WS): Sl 1, k3, purl to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Next Row: Sl 1, k to last st, p1.
Rep last 2 rows until armholes measure about 3 1/2 (4, 4 1/2) in. (9 (10, 11.5) cm), end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row.
Shape Neck
Next Row (RS):
Sl 1, k11 (12, 13) for first side of neck, join a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off next 9 (12, 15) sts for back neck, k to last st, p1 for 2nd side of neck - 12 (13, 14) sts each side.
Work both sides of neck at same time with separate balls of yarn.
Next Row: On first side, sl 1, k3, p to end of side; on 2nd side, p to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Decrease Row (RS): On first side, sl 1, k to last 2 sts, k2tog; on 2nd side, ssk, k to to last st, p1 - 11 (12, 13) sts rem for each side.
Rep last 2 rows - 10 (11, 12) sts rem for each side.
Bind off.
Front
With WS facing, sl sts for front back to needle.
Work front same as back until armholes measure 2 1/2 (3, 3 1/2) in. (6.5 (7.5, 9) cm), end with a WS row.
Shape Neck
Next Row (RS):
Sl 1, k13 (14, 15) for first side of neck; join a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off next 5 (8, 11) sts, k to last st, p1 for 2nd side of neck - 14 (15, 16) sts each side.
Notes:
1. Work both sides of neck at same time with separate balls of yarn.
2. The first side of the neck and the second side of the neck refer to how the sides appear on the left hand end of your needle - the first side is the first group of sts on your needle.
Next Row: On first side, sl 1, k3, p to end of side; on 2nd side, p to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Decrease Row (RS): On first side, sl 1, k to last 2 sts, k2tog; on 2nd side, ssk, k to last st, p1 - 13 (14, 15) sts rem for each side.
Rep last 2 rows 3 times - 10 (11, 12) sts rem for each side.
Next Row: On first side, sl 1, k3, p to end of side; on 2nd side, p to last 4 sts, k3, p1.
Next Row: On first side, sl 1, k to end of side; on 2nd side, k to last st, p1.
Rep last 2 rows until front measures same as back.
Bind off.

FLOWER
Note:
Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working with straight needles.
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: K1, yo, k to end of row - 4 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Knit.
Rows 3-6: Rep Rows 1 and 2 twice - 6 sts at the end of Row 6.
Row 7: Bind off 3 sts, k to end or row - 3 sts.
Row 8: Knit.
Rep Rows 1-8 four more times.
Bind off. Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail.
Weave tail through ends of rows across long straight edge and pull to gather for center of Flower. Sew short edges together.  Knot end.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neck Edging
From RS, join yarn in neck edge at either shoulder seam, then pick up and k56 (62, 68) sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Place marker for beg of rnd and join. Purl 1 rnd.
Bind off.
Sew Flower to center front of Dress. Weave in ends.

Super cute! I made this dress for a friend. She absolutely loves it! It came out just like the picture. I thought the pattern was easy to follow and fun to knit.
