Lion Brand® Jamie®
20 sts + 28 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
1. Hat is made of 2 Rectangles; each of the 2 Rectangles are made in 2 halves, with stripes created by the yarn.
2. The Rectangles are sewed together and then ribbing is worked along the lower edge.
RECTANGLES (make 2)
Cast on 25 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Beg with a RS (knit) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 34 rows.
Bind off, but do not fasten off last st.
Beg with 1 st on needle, pick up and k24 more sts evenly spaced across adjoining edge of first half (for a total of 25 sts).
Next Row (WS): Knit.
Beg with a RS row, work in St st for 34 rows.
Note: All pieces are sewed together with straight st on the RS of each piece, so that the seams show.
Sew Rectangles together along one short side, with the stripes running in alternate directions.
From RS, pick up and k82 sts evenly spaced across one long edge of seamed piece.
Next Row (WS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end of row.
Next Row: K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until ribbing measures about 1 in. (2.5 cm). Bind off in rib.
Fold piece in half and from RS, sew remaining side seam and top seam.
Following package directions, make 2 small pom-poms.
Tie one pom-pom to each top corner of Hat.
Weave in ends.
