Everyday Baby Cardi

Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Extra Soft Wool Blend

GAUGE:

18 sts + 25 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS);
20 sts + 25 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in K2, p2 Rib, unstretched.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small hole (in this design the hole is used as a buttonhole) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.

PATTERN STITCH
K2, p2 Rib (worked over a multiple of 4 sts + 2 additional sts)
Row 1:
K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.

NOTES:

1. Cardigan is worked in 5 pieces; Back, 2 Fronts, and 2 Sleeves.
2. Back and Fronts beg with ribbing, then are worked in St st (K on RS, P on WS) to the beg of yoke (top of cardigan). The yoke is worked in ribbing.

Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures 10 (11, 12 1/2, 14) in. (25.5 (28, 32, 35.5) cm) from beg.
