Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton - Microspun - Wool-Ease® Chunky

GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

NOTES:

  1. Materials are sufficient to make several toppers.
  2. Ribbon is worked with one strand each of the 3 yarns held together.

LOOP RIBBON
Measure around your gift box to determine the finished length of Ribbon.

Thread sewing machine with matching thread and pull a generous amount of thread from both the top thread and bobbin. This will be used later to tie the Ribbon to the package.

Holding one strand of each yarn together, sew back and forth across ends to secure.

Fold strands to make a loop about 1 in. (2.5 cm) wide to the left of the presser foot. Tuck the new crossing yarns under presser foot and sew. Repeat on the right.

Continue making loops on each side alternately until Ribbon is desired length.

FINISHING
Sew back and forth over end to secure, and continue sewing about 1/2 in. (1 cm) past the end of the last loop of yarn. Lift presser foot and again pull out a generous amount of thread from the top and bobbin to use for a tie. Cut thread. Trim any extra yarn even with loops. Tie Ribbon around package and give to someone fancy!

I thought it was hairpin lace at first. Crochet is a great alternative, would be nice if they included instructions for that too. Or how about a hybrid - wrap the hairpin loom then use machine to sew a ribbon down the middle? Might be a fun quick way...gonna grab a wire hanger and bend into a long hairpin to try it!
