Additional Materials 3/4 yd (3/4 m) washable cotton fabric, 45 in. (114.5 cm) wide
Fiberfill stuffing
Sewing needle and thread
Sewing pins
OPTIONAL MATERIALS
Knit squares are assembled over inner blocks, for which fabric squares are sewn together and stuffed.
If desired, knit squares can be assembled over foam blocks. You will need 3 foam blocks, cut to 6 x 6 x 6 in. (15 x 15 x 15 cm).
18 stitches + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. The pattern makes 3 Blocks. Each Block is made from 6 Squares, each worked with a different color yarn.
2. Six Squares are arranged and sewed together around an inner fabric or foam block, to make each Block.
SQUARE (make 18 - 3 each with A, B, C, D, E, and F)
Cast on 27 stitches.
Work in Garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 6 in. (15 cm) from beginning
Bind off.
FINISHING
Note: If using foam cube as the inner block, disregard the instructions for making an inner block, and proceed to the assembly instructions.
Inner block (make 3)
From fabric, cut 6 squares, each 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm) x 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm). Using a 1/4 in. (6 mm) seam allowance, sew 4 squares together (by hand or machine) to make a strip. Seam ends of strip to make a loop for the block sides. Pin, then sew a square to one end of sides. Repeat with remaining square, leaving one edge unseamed for stuffing. Stuff fabric block with fiberfill then sew remaining edge closed.
Assembly
Make 3 Blocks using one Square of A, B, C, D, E, and F for each Block, as follows:
Sew a strip of 4 Squares, alternating the direction of the rows as follows:
Start with Square A with rows running side to side, turn Square B so rows run up and down and sew to lower edge of square A. Turn Square C so rows run side to side and sew to B. Turn Square D so rows run up and down and sew to C. Sew D to A to make a loop for Block sides. Fit loop around inner fabric (or foam) block. Pin Square E to one remaining side so rows run in the opposite direction of each joining edge. Sew in place. Repeat on remaining side with Square F. Repeat for all 3 Blocks.
Weave in ends.
