Vintage Cowl
Lion Brand® Chenille
GAUGE: 6 1/2 half double crochet = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Cowl is worked in joined rounds with the RS always facing. At the end of each round, join last stitch with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
2. If you find it difficult to join the beginning chain into a ring without twisting, Round 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a round, as follows: Leaving a long beginning tail, chain 40, half double crochet in 3rd chain from hook (beginning chain counts as first stitch) and in each chain across; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain to form a ring. Use beginning tail to sew gap at base of first row closed. Proceed to Round 2.

COWL
Chain 39. Being careful not to twist the chain, join with slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as first stitch), half double crochet in each chain around; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain - 39 stitches.
Round 2: Chain 2 (counts as first stitch), half double crochet in each stitch around; join with slip stitch in top of beginning chain.
Repeat last round until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
