GAUGE:

9 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) with 2 strands of yarn held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Hat is worked in continuous rnds, from lower edge up to top of Hat. Do not join at ends of rnds.
2. Hat is worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog throughout.
3. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, as follows: With 2 strands of yarn held tog, and leaving a long beg yarn tail, ch 41, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 40 sts at the end of this row. Taking care not to twist Row 1, work first st of Rnd 2 into first st of Row 1. Proceed with Rnd 2. Use beg yarn tail to sew first st of Row 1 to lower edge of last st of Row 1.
