GAUGE: 16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k every rnd) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: When knitting in the round on double pointed needles (dpns), your sts need to be divided fairly evenly onto the needles. The total number of sts will not always be evenly divisible by the number of dpns that you are using – this is not a problem! Simply divide your sts as evenly as possible, you will still create a symmetrical ‘tube’ of knitting.

HAT
Cast on 75 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles, having 19 sts on each of 3 needles and 18 sts on 4th needle. Place marker for beginning of rnd and join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in St st in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 5 in. (12.5 cm) from beg.
Next Rnd: *K13, k2tog; rep from * around - 70 sts at the end of this rnd.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K12, k2tog; rep from * around - 65 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K11, k2tog; rep from * around - 60 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K10, k2tog; rep from * around - 55 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K9, k2tog; rep from * around - 50 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K8, k2tog; rep from * around - 45 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K7, k2tog; rep from * around - 40 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around - 35 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K5, k2tog; rep from * around - 30 sts.
Knit 2 rnds.
Next Rnd: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around - 25 sts.
Tail
Continue in St st worked in the rnd until tail of Hat measures about 48 in. (122 cm).
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
