Cable Vision Hat

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®

GAUGE:

9 sts and 12 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

LT (Left Twist) Knit 2nd st on left needle through the back loop and leave on left needle. Then knit both the first and 2nd sts together through the back loop.
RT (Right Twist) K2tog and leave on left needle, then with right needle, go between the 2 sts and k the first st again.
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
MB (Make Bobble) Knit into front of next st but do not remove this st from needle, knit into back of same st and do not remove st from needle, knit into front of same st again and do not remove st from needle, knit into back of same st, remove st from needle (3 sts increased). Turn and purl across the 4 sts. Turn and knit across the 4 sts. Pass the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th st on the right needle over the first st and off of the needle.

NOTES:

When knitting in the round on double pointed needles (dpn), your sts need to be divided fairly evenly onto the needles. If you are working with a set of 4 dpn, your sts should be divided among 3 needles. If you are working with a set of 5 dpn, your sts should be divided among 4 needles. The total number of sts will not always be evenly divisible by the number of dpns that you are using – this is not a problem! Simply divide your sts as evenly as possible, you will still create a symmetrical ‘tube’ of knitting.

HAT
Cast on 48 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles (12 sts on each needle). Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Ribbing
Rnd 1:
*K1 through the back loop, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures about 4 in. (10 cm) from beg.
Beg Pattern
Increase Rnd:
(K1, M1, k2, p5) 6 times - 54 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: (LT, k2, p2, MB, p2) 6 times.
Next Rnd: (K4, p5) 6 times.
Next Rnd: (K2, RT, p5) 6 times.
Next Rnd: (K4, p5) 6 times.
Rep last 4 rnds 4 more times.
Shape Crown (top of Hat)
Rnd 1:
(K1, k2tog, k1, p2tog, p1, p2tog) 6 times - 36 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: (K1, k2tog, p1, p2tog) 6 times - 24 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: (K2tog, p2tog) 6 times - 12 sts.
Rnd 4: (K2tog) 6 times - 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Following package directions, make a medium size pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.

Cable Vision Hat Reviewed by robin on 2012-07-03 *****
This was really fun to knit. It was the first time I used the chunky yarn with larger knitting needles. The hat came out just like the picture. I am a beginner, so I used the knit-a-long instructions posted in one of the other reviews and it made this so simple. The youtube address for the knit-a-long is: http://youtube/dekOJSH-v_g
Happy Knitting!!!
