Riviera Ripple Clutch
Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® - Vanna's Glamour®
GAUGE:
1 ripple = about 3 in. (7.5 cm) with 1 strand of A and 2 strands of C held together.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
1. This project is worked in a ripple crochet pattern. The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it's important to remember that you may need to work several rows before the ripple pattern becomes clear. 2. Clutch is worked with 3 strands held together throughout. Work with the strand at the center of each ball AND the strand from the outside of the same ball or wind each ball of yarn into 2 separate balls before beginning. 3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color. 4. Work over yarn ends of old color or weave in ends as you go.
STRIPE SEQUENCE Work *2 rows with 1 strand A and 2 strands C held together, 1 row with 1 strand B and 2 strands D held together, 1 row with 1 strand A and 2 strands C held together, 2 rows with 1 strand B and 2 strands D held together, 1 row with 1 strand A and 2 strands C held together, 1 row with 1 strand B and 2 strands D held together; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.
CLUTCH With 1 strand A and 2 strands C held together, ch 31. Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, *(sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in each of next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch; rep from * across to last 7 ch, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in last ch - 3 ripples at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, *(sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across to last 7 sts, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st; change to 1 strand B and 2 strands D held together in last st. Rep Row 2 and continue changing color as in Stripe Sequence, until piece measures about 15 in. (38 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING Fold along the 15 in. (38 cm) length as follows: fold up 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) at one end. Sew through both layers along both sides to make body of Clutch. Fold over the opposite end to make a flap that will be about 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) wide. Optional: With sewing needle and thread, sew one half of magnetic closure to inside of flap and the other half to front of Clutch. Weave in ends.
