Loom Double Knit Hat
Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Extra Soft Wool Blend
GAUGE: 5 1/2 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) with 2 strands of yarn held together.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT.
NOTES: 1. Hat is worked with 2 strands held together.
2. Follow loom manual instructions on DOUBLE KNITTING for how to cast on, knit, and bind off.
3. Cut a 24 in. (61 cm) length of yarn to use as the scrap yarn that is placed over the cast on stitches as indicated in the loom manual. This length of yarn will also be used to gather the top of the Hat and seam the Hat.
4. The cast on edge will become the top of the Hat.
5. Hat will be longer and narrower than finished measurement as it comes off the loom. Gently pull from the sides to shape the Hat.
6. One large contrast color peg is placed on one U-shaped piece to hold beginning slip knot at cast on edge. Do not knit onto the contrast color peg.

Loom Configuration
Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces, (2) 12-hole pieces, (2) 6-hole pieces and 2 U-shaped pieces.
Connect pieces to form a rectangle as follows: 36-hole piece > 12-hole piece > 6-hole piece > U-shaped piece > 36-hole piece > 12-hole piece > 6-hole piece > U-shaped piece.
Insert one large peg into every other hole along both long sides of loom - 54 large working pegs placed.
Insert 1 large contrast color peg into one corner to hold slip knot.
HAT
With 2 strands of yarn held together and following loom manual instructions, cast onto the 54 working pegs.
Work in double knitting until piece measures about 11 in. (28 cm) from beginning.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Pull the 24 in. (61 cm) length of yarn tightly to gather top of Hat. Knot to secure. Thread same length of yarn into yarn needle provided with loom, then seam sides of Hat. Using same needle, weave the yarn ends into the fabric of the Hat. |
