Cotton Sun Hat
Lion Brand® Nature's Choice Organic® Cotton
GAUGE: 10 sc = about 4 in. (10 cm) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HAT
Wrap yarn around index finger. Insert hook into ring on finger and work the first st of Rnd 1. Carefully slip ring from finger and work the remaining stitches of Rnd 1 into the ring. When Rnd 1 is complete, gently pull yarn tail to tighten the center of the ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 5 (6) sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc - 5 (6) sc at the end of this rnd. Place marker for beg of rnd and move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc - 10 (12) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 15 (18) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 20 (24) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc 25 (30) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 30 (36) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 35 (42) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 8: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 40 (48) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 9 and 10: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 11: Ch 3 (counts as first dc in this rnd and in all following rnds), dc in each sc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnds 12-17: Repeat Rnds 9-11 twice more.
Rnd 18: Ch 1, *sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * to last 5 (6) sc, sc in each of next 4 (5) sc, 2 sc in last sc; join with sl st in first sc - 46 (55) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 19-21: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 22: Ch 1, sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * 7 (9) more times, sc in each of last 3 (2) sc; join with sl st in first sc - 55 (66) sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 23: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Pull up on the last loop making a large loop, so you can block without fastening off. Remove loop from hook.
FINISHING Using pliers, form wire into a circle, overlapping edges by about 1 in. (2.5 cm) (photo below).
Wrap wire ends with duct tape to secure (photo below).
Place wire circle around outer edge of hat. Insert hook back into large loop and tighten loop.
Rnd 1: Ch 1,*insert hook into next sc and under wire (first photo below), yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook (second photo below); rep from * around (third photo below); join with sl st in first sc.
Note: In next rnd you will work into the sps between sts, where you can still see the wire, to completely hide the wire.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in sps between sts, *insert hook in next sp and under wire (first photo below), yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook (sc over wire made), insert hook in same sp and work another sc over the wire (second photo below); rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 3: Sl st in each st around (photo below); join with sl st in first st.
Fasten off.

| Loved the hat. It is quick and very easy. I crocheted it in the round without using the slip stitch to join the rows except for the DC rows. I embellished it with crocheted flowers.
