Image of Easy-Over Cowl
The body of this cowl is worked in double crochet, making it very quick to crochet. Because it is worked in the round, there is no seaming to worry about at the end.

GAUGE:

11 sc = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Cowl is worked in rnds. At the end of each rnd, sl st to join last st to first st. Turn work at the beg of each rnd.
2. If you prefer, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row and then joined into a rnd. This is an easy way to beg without twisting the foundation ch.
3. To work Rnd 1 as a row, leave a yarn tail and ch 67, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. At the end of the row, join the last st to the first with a sl st.

COWL
Ch 66. Taking care not to twist the ch; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with sl st in first sc - 66 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), turn, dc in each sc around; join with sl st in top of turning ch.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each dc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Repeat Rnds 2 and 3 until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

Easy-Over Cowl Reviewed by Nancy P on 2014-02-01 *****
I've used this pattern several times and really like it. It takes only a few hours to make. For worsted weight yarn, I chain 80 and use a 9 mm hook to create a somewhat lacy cowl of approx 28 x 8. Use fewer stitches for thicker yarn. Use more stitches and a smaller hook for thinner yarn.
