Cozy Lined Hat

Lion Brand® Vanna's Colors

GAUGE:

12 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit into front and back). Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st - 1 st increased.

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (multiple of 2 sts)
Row 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

Hat and lining are made in one piece, then lining is folded to inside of Hat.

HAT
Cast on 6 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Kfb in each st across - 12 sts.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: *K1, kfb; rep from * across row - 18 sts.
Row 5: *K2, kfb; rep from * across row - 24 sts.
Row 7: *K3, kfb; rep from * across row - 30 sts.
Row 9: *K4, kfb; rep from * across row - 36 sts.
Row 11: *K5, kfb; rep from * across row - 42 sts.
Row 13: *K6, kfb; rep from * across row - 48 sts.
Row 15: *K7, kfb; rep from * across row - 54 sts.
Row 17: *K8, kfb; rep from * across row - 60 sts.
Row 19: *K9, kfb; rep from * across row - 66 sts.
Row 21: *K10, kfb; rep from * across row - 72 sts.
Change to K1, p1 Rib and work until piece measures about 16 ½ in. (46 cm) from beginning, end with a WS row.
Note: End with a WS row means the last row you work should be a WS row, the next row you will work is a RS row.
Lining
Row 1: *K10, k2tog, rep from * across row - 66 sts.
Row 2 and all WS Rows: Knit.
Row 3: *K9, k2tog, rep from * across row - 60 sts.
Row 5: *K8, k2tog, rep from * across row - 54 sts.
Row 7: *K7, k2tog, rep from * across row - 48 sts.
Row 9: *K6, k2tog, rep from * across row - 42 sts.
Row 11: *K5, k2tog, rep from * across row - 36 sts.
Row 13: *K4, k2tog, rep from * across row - 30 sts.
Row 15: *K3, k2tog, rep from * across row - 24 sts.
Row 17: *K2, k2tog, rep from * across row - 18 sts.
Row 19: *K1, k2tog, rep from * across row - 12 sts.
Row 21: *K2tog, rep from * across row - 6 sts.

Cozy Lined Hat Reviewed by Janice Webster on 2013-05-05 *****
I have made a couple of these hats and plan to make more for the neighbours who have looked after the snow this past season. I used circular needles, they worked great on the pattern
