GAUGE: 14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st. |

SCARF
Cast on 2 sts.
Increase Row: K to last st, kfb in last st - 3 sts at the end of this row.
Rep Increase Row until you have a total of 20 sts.
Decrease Row: K to last 2 sts, k2tog - 19 sts at the end of this row.
Rep Decrease Row until 9 sts rem.
Continue to increase to 20 sts and decrease to 9 sts until piece measures about 52 in. (132 cm) from beginning, end with 9 sts.
Rep Decrease Row until 2 sts rem.
Last Row: K2tog - 1 st at the end of this row.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends. |
