Spiral Crocheted Afghan
Lion Brand® Homespun®
GAUGE: 12 sc + 13 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: All rnds are worked with RS always facing. Rnds 2–34 are worked in continuous rnds, and not joined at the end of each rnd. Rnds 35-46 are joined at the end of each rnd, be sure to read the instructions carefully for each rnd.

I found this to be a very easy pattern to follow up to round 36.
I found that if I follow the instructions for round 36 as they are written, the corners do not end up being in the right spots... as it is written, the corners end up on the wrong side of the long chains. Perhaps that is why some people are getting the rippling problem?
This is the way I have been doing Round 36 and have had zero issues:
Rnd 36: Ch 3 (counts as first dc in this rnd and in all following rnds), dc in next 32 sc, (dc, ch 2 dc) in next sc (corner made), *dc in next 50 sc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sc*; rep from * 4 more times, dc in last 17 sc; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch.
My corners seem to be set up quite nicely when I work it that way.
I would be happy to give this project 5 stars, but the pattern does not match the photo or make sense as to where the corners are....
