Gentle Waves Afghan
Lion Brand® Homespun®
GAUGE: 11 sc = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: Cl (cluster) Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops rem on hook), yarn over, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
dc2tog (dc 2 sts together) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops. Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
hdc2tog (hdc 2 sts together) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
|
NOTES: 1. The wave pattern is created by working sts of varying heights across rows.
2. Dc2tog and hdc2tog decrease the st count. In this pattern each dc2tog or hdc2tog is matched with a ch-1, to keep the st count the same for all rows.
3. Always work dc2tog and hdc2tog over the next 2 sts. The next 2 sts may be 2 sc or they may be a ch-1 and its matching dc2tog or hdc2tog.
4. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st.

| I used this pattern as a guide for a variation I produced utilizing the baby's first line of yarn. I love this pattern! It was easy to follow, and I have created the most beautiful crib blanket for my son using a male gradient color scheme. I plan to use it for one on my daughters, and my mother has also put in a request to have a similar, neutral blanket. It's an easy pattern with the look of something much more complex. Never would have found it if it weren't for the free catalog that came in my order!
