Beginner Crochet Baby Afghan
Lion Brand® Jamie®
GAUGE: 14 half double crochet + 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

My first baby blanket and I'm very pleased with the results. The instructions were great, though I did have to adjust my gauge to make the squares come out right. I used various shades of blue for a baby boy, and added an extra row. The hardest part was deciding how to join the squares since there weren't very clear instructions on that part. I found a great page with many options:

and I chose the reverse mattress stitch. Easy and looked great when done. I'll be doing this one again!
