GAUGE:
6 sts and 8 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS);
6 sts and 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. Bolero is worked in one piece from neck down.
2. The yoke (the upper portion of the Bolero) is worked in Garter st (k every row), and the body is worked in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with a Garter st border.
3. Slip the first st of every row as if to purl, with yarn in front.
4. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
5. Double pointed needles are used only to work sleeve edging.
