Felted Baby Blocks
Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Roving Wool
GAUGE: 8 1/2 sc + 8 1/2 rows = 4 in. (10 cm), before felting. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Blanket Stitch
Working from left to right, bring large-eyed blunt needle from back to front approximately 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) from edge of work. Bring needle around and insert from front to back through loop of yarn to form a 'corner'.

FELTING

FINISHING
Group the squares into 3 sets of 6 squares each. Each set of 6 squares will make one block. Each Block uses one A, B, C, and D Square and 2 E Squares.
Assembly
Hand felting Blanket st will be easier to work with yarn that has been slightly felted. Cut E into 24 in. (61 cm) lengths. Lay a towel onto a flat surface near a sink. Turn on water to very warm. Apply a small amount of liquid hand soap to your hands. Working with one yarn length at time, rub the yarn between your hands (as if briskly washing your hands). Rinse the yarn, then lay onto towel-covered surface to dry.
With felted lengths of E, blanket st the A, B, C, and D Squares together into a strip. Join the ends of the strip with blanket st to make a loop. Blanket st an E Square to one open end of the loop. Stuff piece, then blanket st the second E Square to close the Block.
Repeat to make 2 more Blocks. Weave in ends. |
