GAUGE:
18 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
When you see ‘work even’ in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.

Child's Playtime Top Reviewed by Amy Morfeld on 2012-02-20
I made this top in the 4-5 year size and had 1 extra roll of yarn left over. It came out perfect size wise as my daughter is growing into 5T and it's a little big on her. The yarn quality however I didn't love. It's a very cotton/washcloth type yarn and two things drove me nuts. 1. the yarn tried to un-weave from itself and 2. the yarn came off the roll very twisted. I fought with it quite a bit on at least 3 rolls and a couple rolls it was no issue. Very inconsistent. I added some beadwork to my top so I did not add the buttons. I would like to make this top again using a different yarn. The cotton yarns don't slide through the fingers as nice as other yarns.
