GAUGE:

17 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
2. Blanket is worked in one piece from corner to corner in alternating Garter and Lace Panels.
3. The first half of Blanket is shaped by increasing one st at the beg of every row; second half decreases one st at the beg of every row.
4. Each Garter Panel ends with a WS row; each Lace Panel begins with a RS row.

Diagonal Eyelet Baby Blanket Reviewed by Daria Siciliano on 2014-01-24 ****
I too made this with two strands of yarn held together: one strand of variegated baby yarn and one strand blue. I used a size 10 circular needle as I wanted it more has a crib throw than a infant wrap. It turned out well in the end but I too had an issue with staying on count. I actually copied the pattern section by section and row by row to a word document, noting stitch count at the end of each row. I'd mark each row as completed Be sure to keep strict count of rows and put something on the right side like a big safety pin to mark it.
