GAUGE:

15 sts + 21 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.
kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st.

PATTERN STITCH
K2, p2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts + 2)
Row 1:
K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K2, p2 Rib.

NOTES:

1. Poncho is worked in one piece from left front edge across to right front edge.
2. Collar is worked by picking up sts along top edge after Poncho has been completed.

PONCHO
Beg at left front edge, cast on 52 (56) sts.
Knit 2 rows.
Increase Shaping
Row 1 (RS):
K6, kfb, k to end - 53 (57) sts at the end of this row.
Note: Beg of this row is at lower edge of Poncho.
End of this row is at top edge of Poncho.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K6, kfb, k to end - 54 (58) sts at the end of this row.
Rows 4 and 5: Rep last 2 rows - 55 (59) sts at the end of Row 5.
Row 6: Knit.
Row 7: K5, p1, kfb, k to the last 6 sts, p1, k5 - 56 (60) sts at the end of this row.
Row 8: K6, p to the last 6 sts, k6.
Row 9: K5, p1, kfb, k to the last 6 sts, p1, k5 - 57 (61) sts at the end of this row.
Rows 10-49: Rep last 2 rows 20 more times - 77 (81) sts at the end of Row 49.
Row 50: K6, p to the last 6 sts, k6.
Row 51: K5, p1, k to the last 6 sts, p1, k5.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures 50 (54) in. (127 (137) cm) from beg, end with a WS row. Note: End with a WS row means that the last row you work should be a WS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a RS row.
Decrease Shaping

K5, p1, k to last 8 sts, k2tog, p1, k5 - 76 (80) sts at the end of this row.

Poncho Wrap Reviewed by Connie Bell on 2012-04-12 *
I tried this pattern, I got to the last row of the body and could not go any further, it is indeed a very odd pattern, not wide enough also to be of any use. Ripped it all out, it is sick and wrong! Don't do it!!!!
I gave it one star because it won't accept it without a rating, otherwise 0!!!!
