Lofty Pom-Pom Hat

Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Lofty Wool Blend

GAUGE:

6 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

PATTERN EXPLANATION
K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds (multiple of 4 sts)
Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds.

HAT
Cast on 28 sts and divide sts onto 4 needles. Place marker for beg of rnd and join by working first st on left hand needle with working yarn from right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Work in k2 p2 rib for 5 rnds.
Work in St st (k every rnd) until piece measures 6 in. from beg.
Shape Top of Hat
Next Rnd: *K5, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 24 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *K4, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 20 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *K3, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 16 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *K2, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 12 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *K1, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 8 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *K2tog, rep from * to end of rnd - 4 sts.
Cut yarn leaving a tail.
Pull tail through remaining 4 sts to gather tightly and fasten off.

FINISHING
Following package instructions, make a pom-pom and tie to top of hat.
Weave in ends.
