Simple Throw

GAUGE:

13 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

THROW

SQUARE (make 4; 2 each with A and B)

Cast on 63 sts.
Rows 1 and 2: Knit.
Row 3 (RS): Knit.
Row 4 (WS): K6, p to last 6 sts, k6.
Rep Rows 3 and 4 until piece measures about 18 3/4 in. (47.5 cm) from beg, end with a RS row. Note: End with a RS row means that the last row you work should be a RS row, and the next row that you are ready to work will be a WS row.
Last 2 Rows: Knit.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Sew cast-on edge of one Square A to bound-off edge of one Square B, then sew cast-on edge of remaining Square B to bound-off edge of remaining Square A, to make 2 strips. Sew strips together to make Throw.
Weave in ends.

Simple Throw Reviewed by Dena Sigman on 2013-04-07 **
I am only two squares into this project and already seeing many problems. In order for this to be a decent size for adults, I will have to knit more panels than it calls for. The picture makes it look like it will work with 4 but I can promise you it won't. I started with a different yarn immediately because I knew Martha Stewart was too overpriced. It has been a very easy pattern though, which is good since I am a beginner knitter. Other posters are right about the edges but I think I will be able to make this work in the end. I picked this pattern because I thought it would knit up quick based on the picture and now I have a wedding gift in the works that might not be ready in time.
