Picot Hem Poncho

Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Extra Soft Wool Blend

19 sts + 27 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

1. Poncho is worked in rnds, beg at neck.
2. Poncho has folded hems at Neckband and lower edge. Neckband is folded across a purl turning ridge, and lower edge is folded across a picot edge.
3. If desired, when sts are sufficiently increased, change to longer circular needles.

With shorter circular needles, cast on 102 (106, 112) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Note: In next rnd, markers are placed for sides of Poncho, dividing sts in half. You may wish to use different color markers for side markers than for beg of rnd marker.
Rnd 1 (RS): K25 (26, 28), pm, k51 (53, 56), pm, k to end.
Rnd 2 (Decrease Rnd): (K to 2 sts before marker, ssk, sl marker, k1, k2tog) twice, k to end of rnd - 98 (102, 108) sts at the end of this rnd.
Sl markers as you come to them.
Rnds 3 and 4: Knit.
Rnds 5-10: Rep last 3 rnds 2 times - 90 (94, 100) sts rem.
Rnd 11 (Turning Ridge): Purl.
Body Rnd 12: Knit.
Rnd 13 (Increase): (K to marker, M1, sl marker, k1, M1) twice, k to end - 94 (98, 104) sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 14 and 15: Knit.
Rep last 3 rnds 25 (29, 32) times - 194 (214, 232) sts when all increases are completed.
Picot Hem Next Rnd (Picot Edge): *Yo, k2tog; rep from * around.
Knit 3 rnds.
Bind off.

Fold neckband to WS along turning ridge and sew in place.
Fold picot hem to WS along picot edge and sew in place.

Picot Hem Poncho Reviewed by em57man on 2013-07-26 *****
I just made this poncho for my daughter. Its very easy and the learning videos from the lion brand web site were very helpful. I would definitely made this again in a different color. It looks so cute on her.
