Lion Brand® Tweed Stripes®

GAUGE:

14 1/2 sts + 18 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (over even number of sts)
Row 1: *
K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

SHRUG
Cast on 138 sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 2 in. (5 cm) from beg.
Change to St st (k on RS, p on WS) and work until piece measures 37 in. (94 cm) from beg.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 39 in. (99 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Fold piece in half, bringing cast-on and bound-off edges together, to measure 38 x 19 1/2 in. (96.5 x 49.5 cm). Place markers on each of the 19 1/2 in. (49.5 cm) sides, 7 in. (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam each side from marker down to lower edge. Weave in ends.

Basic Shrug Reviewed by tiffanyking1976 on 2013-05-21 ****
I love this pattern. I have made two so far. I did find that it does depend on the yarn type as far as the drape is concerned. I made my second one out of Lionbrand Cotton Ease and the drape was lovely. I did use size 7 needles and cast on 165 stitches instead of 138. My acrylic one needed some slight steam blocking blocking before I stitched it up, to relax the fabric and get rid of the "poof" in the back.
