Loom Knit Fringed Poncho
Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®
GAUGE:
12 stitches = about 4 in. (10 cm) with 2 strands of yarn held together.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. The instructions provided in the loom manual for casting on are the same for both flat knitting and knitting in the round (when you make a tube). These instructions are listed under the heading of SINGLE KNITTING.
2. Follow instructions provided in the Knit & Weave Loom manual for how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
3. Once you've cast on for the Poncho, begin working back and forth for single knitting.
4. The Poncho is worked in 2 separate halves.
5. For both Halves, the loom is configured into an oval to accommodate the number of pegs needed to obtain the correct width.
6. The curved shape of the semi-circle pieces does not affect the shape of the finished knit fabric.
7. Poncho is worked with 2 strands of yarn - one each of A and B - held together. These 2 strands held together are treated as one strand.
Loom Configuration
Use the following pieces: (2) 28-hole semi-circle pieces, (2) 12-hole pieces, (2) 36-hole pieces.
Connect pieces to form an oval as follows: 28-hole semi-circle piece > 36-hole piece > 12-hole piece > 12-hole piece > 36-hole piece > 28-hole semi-circle piece.
Insert 51 large pegs into every other hole along first 28-hole semi-circle piece, along next 36-hole and 12-hole pieces, and along the second 28-hole semi-circle piece - 51 working pegs placed. Insert a small contrast color peg into each connecting hole to hold loom together.
FIRST HALF
With 1 strand each of A and B held together, cast onto every working peg. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 28 in. (71 cm) from beginning.
Bind off.
SECOND HALF
Make same as for First Half.
FINISHING
Using yarn needle supplied with loom, and following Assembly Diagram, sew halves of Poncho together. Thread yarn ends into same needle and weave into the fabric of the Poncho.
Fringe
Cut 2 strands each of A and B, each 11 in. (28 cm) long. Hold strands of yarn together and fold in half. Use the crochet hook provided with loom to draw fold through lower edge of Poncho, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Make fringe as desired along lower edge of Poncho. Trim fringe evenly.
