Loom Double Knit Rib Scarf

Lion Brand® Alpine Wool

16 stitches = about 4 in. (10 cm) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Follow loom manual instructions on DOUBLE KNITTING for how to cast on, knit, change color, and bind off.
2. To create a ribbed fabric, after the first row of knitting, the loom is laced differently than described in the loom manual. Follow diagram provided for instructions on how to lace loom for ribbed knitting.

Loom Configuration
Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces and (2) U-shaped pieces.

Connect pieces to form a rectangle as follows: 36-hole piece > U-shaped piece > 36-hole piece > U-shaped piece.

Insert 16 large pegs into every other hole along each 36-hole piece - 32 working pegs placed. Place a contrast color peg in one corner for slip knot.

Following loom manual instructions, with A and scrap yarn, cast onto the 32 working pegs. Knit off each peg around the loom.
Now begin to lace the loom according to the diagram provided, and following the Color Sequence below. Knit off each stitch as shown in loom manual after lacing each row as shown in diagram provided.

Continuing with A, knit 6 rows
Change to B and knit 4 rows
Change to A and knit 6 rows
Change to B and knit 2 rows
Change to A and knit 6 rows
Change to B and knit 6 rows
Change to A and knit until this A section measures about 36 in. (91.5 cm)
Change to B and knit 12 rows
Change to A and knit 8 rows
Change to B and knit 3 rows
Change to A and knit 6 rows
Change to B and knit 2 rows
Change to A and knit until A yarn has been almost completely used.
Bind off.
Bind off cast on edge of Scarf.

Remove scrap yarn. Thread yarn ends into yarn needle provided with loom and weave yarn ends into the fabric of the Scarf.

Loom Double Knit Rib Scarf Reviewed by Barbara Schildknecht on 2012-10-01 *****
My first project with the Martha Stewart Loom. It was great! Easy and the results were beautiful! Now I am looking for fingerless gloves to make to match!

Thank you so much!
