GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: FAIR ISLE PATTERN (multiple of 4 + 2 sts)
Row 1: *With A, k2, with B, k2; rep from * across to last 2 sts, with A, k2.
Row 2: *With A, p2, with B, p2; rep from * across to last 2 sts, with A, p2.
Row 3: *With B, k2, with A, k2; rep from * across to last 2 sts, with B, k2.
Row 4: *With B, p2, with A, p2; rep from * across to last 2 sts, with B, p2.
Rep Rows 1-4 for Fair Isle pattern. |
NOTES: IMPORTANT NOTE
Because of button eyes, Doll should not be given to small children. To make doll safe for children, use purchased safety eyes instead of buttons.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
1. Small needles are used to create a dense fabric, suitable for a stuffed toy.
2. Body is worked in stranded colorwork, with 2 colors used per row. Carry color not in use across WS. There is no need to twist colors on WS.

BODY
Beg at lower edge of Body, with A, cast on 50 sts.
Purl 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of Fair Isle pattern.
Rows 2-44: Continuing in pattern, rep Rows 1-4 of Fair Isle pattern. Change to C.
Rows 45-51: With C, work in reverse St st (p on RS, k on WS)
Bind off.
LEGS (make 2)
With A, cast on 12 sts.
Rows 1-41: Beg with a purl (WS) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS). At the end of Row 41, change to B.
Rows 42-51: With B, continue in St st.
Row 52: (K2tog) across - 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row, pull to gather tightly, and knot to secure. Seam sides of Leg, stuffing lightly as you sew.
ARMS (make 2)
With A, cast on 12 sts.
Rows 1-31: Beg with a purl (WS) row, work in St st. At the end of Row 31, change to B.
Rows 32-37: With B, continue in St st.
Row 38: (K2tog) across - 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row, pull to gather tightly, and knot to secure. Seam sides of Arm, stuffing lightly as you sew.
FINISHING
Seam sides of Body. Flatten Body, so that seam is at center back. Sew buttons to Body for eyes. With yarn or embroidery floss, embroider a straight st mouth and 'eyelashes' above button eyes. Seam top edge of body. Stuff Body, then seam lower edge. Sew Arms and Legs to Body. Weave in ends. |
