NECKLACE
With knitting needle, make a hole through center of each foam ball.
Thread a 36 in. (91.5 cm) length of B into blunt needle and knot ends so yarn is doubled. String balls onto yarn, leaving a little space between each ball, so that Necklace remains flexible.
Cut thirty eight 18 in. (45.5 cm) strands each of A and B, and eight 8 in. (20.5 cm) strands of B.
Lay the long A strands onto a flat surface. Tie a shorter B strand around A strands about 4 in. (10 cm) from one end. Lay the string of foam balls on top of the A strands.
Wrap A strands over first ball, smoothing strands to cover half the ball. Tie a shorter B strand around A strands to secure. Repeat to cover remaining balls, tying a B strand between each ball.
Lay the long B strands onto a flat surface and repeat wrapping procedure, covering remaining half of each ball with B, with a B tie between each ball and at each end.
Cut a 36 in. (91.5 cm) length of B. Thread strand into blunt needle. Wrap strand several times over each tie, pulling tight to secure. To end off, insert needle through wraps to conceal yarn end.
Tie strands at beginning and end of Necklace together and trim to about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) at each end of Necklace.
FINISHING
Cut two 36 in. (91.5 cm) strands of B and one 36 in. (91.5 cm) strand of A. Holding all three strands together, fold in half. Tie folded end tightly to strands of yarn at one end of Necklace. Divide strands into 3 groups and braid for about 20 in. (51 cm). Tie end of braid to strands at remaining end of Necklace.
Slit one length of cardboard tube. Apply a small amount of glue to outside of tube, then wrap tube lengthwise with B. Allow glue to dry, then wrap tube over strands and braid at one end of Necklace.
With B, wrap tube horizontally. Thread yarn end through wraps to conceal. Repeat with remaining length of cardboard tube at other end of necklace. |
