GAUGE: 10 double crochet + 5.5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

| I am an absolute beginner at crochet (more experience with knitting, but still a beginner with that as well). My first project was the typical dish cloth, followed by a coffee cozy. This was my third project. This scarf was truly easy. But it's beautiful and looks like it was difficult to make. I feel very accomplished! It took me just two nights to complete it.
