Felted Soap Cozy With Leaf

GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased. |
NOTES: 1. Materials are sufficient to make multiple Cozies. Reverse colors (using B for Cozy and A for Leaf) as desired.
2. Due to the nature of the felting process, the size of your finished Cozy may vary.

COZY
With A, ch 23.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 22 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 2-19: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Fasten off.
LEAF
With B, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 4 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc - 6 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 3-7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog - 4 sts at the end of this row.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn, (sc2tog) twice - 2 sts at the end of this row.
Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog - 1 st at the end of this row.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Wrap Cozy around bar of soap. Sew center back seam. Sew top and lower edges closed. Sew Leaf to front of Cozy. Embroider straight st veins on Leaf. Weave in ends.
Felting
Fill sink with hot water. Put on rubber gloves. Hold Cozy with one hand, rub surface of fabric with your other hand. Work over entire surface, lathering until sts begin to lose their definition. Rinse gently to remove soap residue. Allow to dry. Cozy will continue to felt as soap is used. |

| Cozy is really nice but felts much better in the washer then in the sink. I crocheted the cozy leaving one end open, washed the cozy so it would felt nicely and then added the bar of soap. I just left one end open so I could put in new soap when the soap was gone.
