Loom Knit Tweedy Scarf
Lion Brand® Alpine Wool
GAUGE: 10 1/2 stitches = about 4 in. (10 cm)
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Scarf is worked with 2 strands of yarn - one each of A and B - held together. These 2 strands held together are treated as one strand. When the instructions refer to 'loop', the loop consists of 2 strands - one each of A and B.
2. The instructions provided in the loom manual for casting on are the same for both flat knitting and knitting in the round (when you make a tube). These instructions are listed under the heading of SINGLE KNITTING.
3. Once you've cast on for the Scarf, begin working back and forth for single knitting.
4. The loom is configured with semi-circle pieces on each end to provide stability. Loom can be configured into a variety of shapes to suit your preference. If desired, use additional loom pieces to configure loom into any shape, then knit back and forth in rows on just one side of loom.
5. The first peg at the beginning of every row is skipped (not worked) and the last peg at the end of every row is knit. This creates a neat edge on both sides of the Scarf.

Loom Configuration
Use the following pieces: (1) 36-hole pieces and (2) 28-hole semi-circle pieces.
Connect pieces as follows: 28-hole semi-circle piece > 36-hole piece > 28-hole semi-circle piece.
Insert 14 large pegs into every other hole along the 36-hole piece and a large contrast color peg at each end - 16 working pegs placed.
Contrast color pegs are a reminder to skip the first peg of every row.
SCARF
Scarf is knit as a flat piece.
Follow loom manual instructions for SINGLE KNITTING for how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off.
With 1 strand each of A and B held together, cast onto all working pegs.
Row 1: Skip the first peg, knit across all remaining pegs.
Row 2: Skip the first peg, purl across all remaining pegs to last peg, knit the last peg.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 60 in. (152 cm) from beginning.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Thread yarn ends into yarn needle provided with loom and weave ends into the fabric of the Scarf. |
