Mistake Stitch Cable Hat
Lion Brand® Fishermen's Wool®
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Mistake St Cable, with 2 strands of yarn held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: 5-st Cable: Sl next st to first cable needle and hold in front, sl next 3 sts to 2nd cable needle and hold in back, knit next st from left hand needle, k1, p2 from 2nd cable needle, k1 from first cable needle.

HAT
With circular needle and 2 strands of yarn held tog, cast on 80 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rep Rnds 1-12 of Mistake St Cable until piece measures about 7 in. (18 cm) from beg, end with an even-numbered rnd. Note: End with an even-numbered rnd means that the last rnd you work should be an even-numbered rnd, and the next rnd that you are ready to work will be an odd-numbered rnd.
Shape Crown
Note: When shaping crown, change to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.
Next (Decrease) Rnd: *K2, p2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 60 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: K1, *p1, k2; rep from * to last 2 sts, p1, k1.
Next (Decrease) Rnd: *K2tog, p1; rep from * to end of rnd - 40 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Next (Decrease) Rnd: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 20 sts at the end of this rnd.
