Purple Haze Beret

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick® - Fun Fur®

GAUGE:

9 1/2 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in K1, p1 Rib with A.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT.
When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st.

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (over even number of sts)
Rnd 1 (RS):
*K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Rnd 2 for K1, p1 Rib.

NOTES:

Band is worked with 1 strand of A. Remainder of Beret is worked with 2 strands of B held tog.

BERET
Band

With A, cast on 42 sts. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib for 4 rnds.
Next (Inc) Rnd: (Kfb) in each st to end of rnd - 84 sts at the end of this rnd.
Change to 2 strands of B held tog.
Next 3 Rnds: Work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).
Next (Inc) Rnd: *K3, kfb; rep from * to end of rnd - 105 sts at the end of this rnd.
Work even in St st worked in the rnd until piece measures 6 in. (15 cm) from beg.
Note: Work even means to continue without increasing or decreasing the total number of sts.
Shape Crown
Next (Dec) Rnd:
*K3, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd- 84 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next (Dec) Rnd: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 42 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next (Dec) Rnd: *K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 21 sts at the end of this rnd.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
