Rustic Ribbed Hat and Scarf

GAUGE:
11 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern, stretched. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SCARF
Cast on 31 sts. Row 1: K3, *p1, k3; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K1, *p1, k3; rep from * across to last 2 sts, p1, k1.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 56 in. (142 cm). Bind off.
HAT
Cast on 55 sts.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 of Scarf until piece measures about 11 in. (28 cm). Last Row: *K 2 sts together; rep from * across.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely, then use tail to seam Hat.
FINISHING
Following package directions, make a pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.
Weave in ends.
