GAUGE:

10 dc = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

HEADBAND
With A, ch 30.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first dc) and in each ch across - 28 dc at the end of this row.
Rows 2-4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in each dc across.
Row 5: Do not turn, working across short side, work 7 tr in center of short side, sl st in next corner of short edge. Fasten off.
Join A with sl st in one corner of other end, work 7 tr in center of short side, sl st in next corner of short side. Fasten off.

Horns (make 2)
Note:
Decide where you would like to place the horns before beg.
Rnd 1: With B, make a slip knot on the hook, *insert hook into Headband from front to back to front again around the post of the dc near desired location for horn, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (surface sc made); rep from * to work 5 surface sc in a small circle on Headband; join with sl st in first sc - 5 sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in last sc; join with sl st in first sc - 7 sc at the end of this rnd.

Tie B strands around center of C strands. Pull B yarn ends through horn to WS of Headband. Tie B yarn ends on WS and weave in. Rep for tassel on other Horn.
With sewing needle and thread, sew ends of elastic to underside of ends of Headband. Weave in ends.
