GAUGE:
10 dc = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HEADBAND
With A, ch 30. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first dc) and in each ch across - 28 dc at the end of this row. Rows 2-4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in each dc across. Row 5: Do not turn, working across short side, work 7 tr in center of short side, sl st in next corner of short edge. Fasten off.
Join A with sl st in one corner of other end, work 7 tr in center of short side, sl st in next corner of short side. Fasten off.
Horns (make 2)
Note: Decide where you would like to place the horns before beg. Rnd 1: With B, make a slip knot on the hook, *insert hook into Headband from front to back to front again around the post of the dc near desired location for horn, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (surface sc made); rep from * to work 5 surface sc in a small circle on Headband; join with sl st in first sc - 5 sc at the end of this rnd. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc. Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in last sc; join with sl st in first sc - 7 sc at the end of this rnd. Rnds 4 and 6: Rep Rnd 2. Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 3 - 9 sc.
Fasten off.
FINISHING Horn Tassels
Cut 27 strands of C, each about 7 in. (18 cm) long. Place strands, side by side, onto a flat surface and arrange so that ends are NOT even. Cut a 10 in. (25.5 cm) strand of B. Tie B strands around center of C strands. Pull B yarn ends through horn to WS of Headband. Tie B yarn ends on WS and weave in. Rep for tassel on other Horn.
With sewing needle and thread, sew ends of elastic to underside of ends of Headband. Weave in ends.
WRIST WARMERS (make 2)
Cuff
With B, ch 16 (20); sl st in first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist ch. Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in each ch around; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 16 (20) dc at the end of this rnd. Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 4 (7) in. (10 (18 cm)) from beg.
Shape Hand
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each dc to last dc, 2 dc in last dc; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 18 (22) dc at the end of this rnd. Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Rnd 3 (Divide for Thumb): Sl st in next 2 (3) sts, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 13 (15) sts, ch 4 (6), sk last 2 (3) sts; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 14 (16) dc at the end of this rnd. Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each dc to ch-sp, dc in each ch of ch-sp; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 18 (22) dc at the end of this rnd. Rnds 5-7(8): Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
WARTS Large (make 1)
With B, ch 2. Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc - 12 sc at the end of this rnd.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Small (make 2 - 1 with B and 1 with C)
Work Rnd 1 of large wart.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
FINISHING
Edging
Join A with sl st anywhere along top edge of Wrist Warmer. Rnd 1: Ch 1, work sc's evenly spaced around top edge opening; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Work same edging along wrist edge and thumb opening.
Sew warts to backs of Wrist Warmers. Weave in ends.
