BAG KEEPER
To change color in crochet, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st.
Crochet version
With crochet hook and A, ch 16.
Being careful not to twist ch, join with a sl st in beg ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 20 sc into ring. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd, move marker up as each rnd is completed. sl st in first st to join.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc into each st around, sl st in first st to join – 40 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc into each st around, sl st in first st to join.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each st around, sl st in first st to join.
Rnds 5-8: Rep Rnd 4. At the end of Rnd 8, change to B.
Rnd 9: With B, rep Rnd 4. Change to A.
With A, rep Rnd 4 until piece measures 8 1/2 in (22 cm) from beg. Change to C.
Next 2 Rnds: With C, rep Rnd 4. Change to B.
Next Rnd: With B, rep Rnd 4. Change to A.
With A, rep Rnd 4 until piece measures about 14 in (35.5 cm). Change to B.
Next Rnd: With B, rep Rnd 4. Change to A.
Next 2 Rnds: With A, rep Rnd 4.
Next Rnd: With A, sl st in each st around, sl st in first sl st to join. Do not fasten off.
FINISHING
Hanging Loop
Sl st into each of next 3 sl sts, ch 16, sl st into each of next 3 sl sts to the right of center join line, forming a loop. Work 20 sc into loop.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Knit Version
With double pointed needles (dpn) and C, cast on 15 sts. Place marker for beginning of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Knit
Rnd 2: Kfb into each st around – 30 sts.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: *K 1, kfb; rep from * around – 45 sts.
Rnd 5: Purl.
Rnd 6-15: Knit.
Change to B and k one rnd.
Change to A and work in St st worked in the rnd (k all rnds) until piece measures about 15 in. (38 cm) from beg.
Bind off 42 sts – 3 sts remain on needles.
Finishing
Attached I-Cord Border and Hanging Loop
Notes:
1.I-cord is attached to Keeper at the same time the cord is knit.
2.Cord is worked on 2 double-pointed needles (dpns).
Hanging Loop
Slip 3 remaining sts onto one double-pointed needle. **Do not turn work. Slide sts to other end of needle and k across. Rep from * until cord measures about 7 in. (18 cm), then pick up a st along top edge of Keeper to join.
Edging
You will continue to work I-cord, attaching it to the Keeper as you go.
Work attached cord as follows: *insert needle through edge of Keeper, pick up one st and place onto dpn – 4 sts on needle. Slide sts to other end of needle and k2, k2tog. Rep from * around edge of Keeper.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through rem 3 sts, then use tail to sew end of cord to beg of cord.
Weave in ends. |
