Colorwork Cowl

Lion Brand® Superwash Merino Cashmere

GAUGE:

19 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (K on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

STRIPE SEQUENCE
Working in St st (k on RS, p on WS) work *2 rows with B, 1 row with A, 4 rows with C, 1 row with A, 4 rows with B, 2 rows with C, 4 rows with A; repeat from * for Stripe Sequence.

NOTES:

1. When working Stripe Sequence, carry colors not in use along side of work.
2. Cowl is shown with the WS (purl side) facing, but can also be worn with the RS (knit side) showing. Finishing instructions are provided for both options.
3. Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work Cowl back and forth on circular needles as if knitting on straight needles.

COWL
With A, cast on 116 sts.
With A, work in Garter st (knit every row) for 6 rows.
Begin Stripe Sequence
Working in St st (k on RS, p on WS) rep 18 rows of Stripe Sequence 3 times, then work first 14 rows of Sequence once more.
With B, work in Garter st for 6 rows.
Bind off loosely.

FINISHING
Sew Cowl seam. Note: If you want to wear your Cowl with the WS (purl side) showing, seam Cowl on the RS. If you want to wear your Cowl with the RS (knit side) showing, seam Cowl on the WS side.
Weave in ends.
