Red Hot Hat
Lion Brand® Nature's Choice Organic® Cotton
GAUGE: 2 pattern reps = about 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
sc4tog (sc 4 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) 3 times. Yarn over, draw through all 5 loops on hook - 3 sts decreased.

NOTES: 1. Hat is worked from lower edge upwards.
2. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row then joined into a rnd, as follows: Ch 61, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across; join with sl st in first sc. Proceed to Rnd 2. When weaving in ends, use the beginning tail to sew ends of first row together.

HAT
Ch 60. Taking care not to twist ch; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and each ch around; join with sl st in first sc - 60 sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st as join and next sc, ch 4, sk next 4 sc, *sc in next 2 sc, ch 4, sk next 4 sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 10 pattern reps at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Turn, sl st in next ch-4 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-4 sp, sk next 2 sc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-4 sp, sk next 2 sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of turning ch.
Rnd 4: Turn, sl st in each st to next ch-2 sp, ch 1, *2 sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 4, sk next 4 dc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rep Rnds 3 and 4 until piece measures 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg.
Note: Take care when completing the next rnd. Sts are worked after the rnd is joined. This positions the work, ready for the following rnd.
Next Rnd: Turn, sl st in next ch-4 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-4 sp, sk next 2 sc, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-4 sp, sk next 2 sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of turning ch, sl st in next st, sl st in next ch-2 sp.
Next Rnd: Ch 1, turn, sc4tog over next 4 dc, sk next ch-2 sp, *sc4tog over next 4 dc, sk next ch-2 sp; rep from * around; join with sl st in first st - 10 sts at the end of this rnd.
Last Rnd: Ch 1, turn, (sc2tog) around; join with sl st in first st - 5 sts at the end of this rnd.
Fasten off leaving long tail. Thread tail through sts of last rnd and pull to gather. Knot securely.
