1. The chain-3 at the beginning of each row counts as the first double crochet in the row.
2. At the beginning of each row, do not work a double crochet into the last double crochet of the previous row.
3. At the end of each row, work a double crochet in the top chain of the chain-3 at the beginning of the previous row.

Chain 9.
Row 1: Double crochet in 4th chain from hook and in each chain across - 6 double crochet stitches and the beginning chain-3, for a total of 7 stitches worked in this row.
Row 2: Chain 3, turn, double crochet in each double crochet across, double crochet in top of beginning chain.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 64 in. (162.5 cm) from beginning.

Old School Tweed Scarf Reviewed by Katherine Kelly on 2013-11-23 ****
I used the Aspen Tweed and only used one ball. Following the pattern I ended up with 3 X 54 in. I did make a mistake by working in the first DC of the row, but it gave the scarf a cute little wavy edge that I ended up liking. I must have made another mistake since mine didn't end up 5 inches wide, but being a beginner I was happy with the results.
